BJP National Council ratifies Amit Shah's appointment as new party president Saturday Aug 09,2014

The BJP National Council on Saturday ratified the appointment of Amit Shah as the new party president.
Addressing the National Council, Mr. Shah said the Lok Sabha poll verdict reflected the defeat of dynasty politics. “People have rejected appeasement and votebank politics,” he said.
“Only in the BJP even the most ordinary worker can rise to be the party president and Prime Minister,” he added.
Mr. Shah said that during the general election the poor felt that the “BJP is their party (and) a tea seller (Narendra Modi) is going to be the Prime Minister.”
“We got support from the poor,” he added at the day-long meet being held at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.

Addressing the meeting, outgoing president and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said that “some people may wonder why Amit Shah (for BJP chief’s post)?”
He said that when he was looking for someone to lead the party in the 2014 Lok Sabha election in Uttar Pradesh, he zeroed in on Mr. Shah.
He added that under Mr. Shah’s leadership, for the first time BJP got 71 of 80 Lok Sabha seats while two seats went to a BJP ally.
He recalled that the BJP had just two seats in the Lok Sabha in 1984 and today it is the “biggest party”.
