2014 Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Election Results Tuesday Dec 23,2014

Hung Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir

Mufti Mohammed Sayeed’s PDP has emerged as the single largest party with 28 seats, 16 short of a majority in the 87-member legislature. BJP got 25 seats and NC 17, including two Independents supported by it, followed by the Congress with 12 seats.

Being the single largest party, the PDP is not short of choices. But choosing the BJP over the Congress or vice versa is not an easy decision to take

If winning a mandate seemed hard in Kashmir, forming a government is going to be even harder
“We are caught between the devil and the deep sea,” People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Nayeem Akhter said. “All the alliances that are available put one in a Catch-22 situation.”

BJP  is keeping “all its options open” in Jammu and Kashmir where it has emerged as the second largest party after the People’s Democratic Party(PDP)

“The BJP has emerged as a relevant, democratic force in Jammu and Kashmir,’’ an elated party president Amit Shah, said

The 12th Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir will have nearly 65 % new faces as only 31 of the 87 newly-elected MLAs have previously been member the House.

The BJP, which won 25 seats, has the highest number of first-timers. Twenty-two BJP MLAs will experience their stint in the Assembly for the first time, while Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which emerged as the single largest party with 28 MLAs, have 19 new faces.
6 new faces will be part of the 12-member Congress Legislature Party in the new Assembly which will also have 5 new faces from NC and two from Peoples Conference including separatist-turned politician Sajjad Ghani Lone.

Two Independent members - Pawan Kumar Gupta and Syed Bakir Rizvi - are also first-timers in the Assembly.

Two National Conference MLAs have managed to win the Assembly polls for a sixth time - equalling the record held by their colleague and former Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather whose dream run of 37 years as MLA of Chrar-e-Sharief ended with his defeat to PDP's Ghulam Nabi Lone
