But the IMD qualified the related bulletin saying less than expected rainfall has been realised during this process.

Isolated placed on Tamil Nadu coast received heavy rainfall during the 24 hours ending this morning, it said.

The low-pressure area that was located off the Chennai coast in the morning has weakened into a trough along the Tamil Nadu coast.

The presence of the trough is enough to sustain the ongoing rainfall along the coast.

The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu and Kerala for the next three days.

It also signalled a build-up of heavy rainfall along the Andhra Coast from November 5, apparently associated with the likely arrival of a storm, the second after cyclone 'Kyant.'
