Google Doodle celebrates 30th Anniversary of Pi Day Wednesday March 14,2018

Google on Wednesday celebrated the 30th Anniversary of Pi Day – which is dedicated to the mathematical constant, Pi.

Mathematicians around the world celebrates Pi Day on March 14 every year.

First recognized in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw, Pi Day observers often celebrate with a slice of their favorite pie in honor of the number’s delicious sounding name.

“Today’s delectable Doodle - baked & built by award-winning pastry chef and creator of the Cronut Dominique Ansel - pays homage to this well-rounded mathematical constant by representing the pi formula (circumference divided by diameter) using — what else — pie!,” Google wrote.

Pi - the enigmatic number that has fascinated mathematicians for generations. Pi represent a constant in mathematics i.e. the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159.

Pi is useful for all kinds of calculations involving the volume and surface area of spheres, as well as for determining the rotations of circular objects such as wheels.

That is why pi is also important for scientists, who work with planetary bodies and the spacecraft that visit them.

Pi is the ratio of circumference to the diameter of a circle.

If you want to find out the distance around a circle when you have the distance across it, you will need this formula.

Despite its frequent appearance in math and science, one cannot write pi as a simple fraction or calculate it by dividing two integers (...-3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3...).

For this reason, pi is said to be "irrational".
